Mai 1905 an die Missions-Handlungs-Gesellschaft Basel. Wir schliessen eine Photographie über einen Teil der Bohranlagen der Kamerun-Bergwerks-Gesellschaft bei (die Bohrstelle ist 2 Stunden von hier). Ueber das Ergebnis der Bohrungen hört man wenig, doch ist es scheints nichts mit Petroleum. Man bohrt schon auf einer Tiefe von 800 Metern und hat noch keine Aussicht auf Erfolg. Bereits ist an 2 Bohrtürmen die Arbeit eingestellt, der Rest der Beamten erwartet in Kürze Abberufung wenn das Ergebnis nicht besser wird. Ueber 1 Million Mark sind schon verbohrt. Die Anlagen selbst sind grossartig, in überraschend kurzer Zeit waren sie ausgeführt. Durch Wildnis und Sumpf führt jetzt ein sauber gehaltener breiter mit Brücken versehener Weg nach der Bohrstelle. Es ist schade, dass der Erfolg ausbleibt, Kamerun hätte ein grosser Aufschwung mit der Erschliessung von Oelquellen genommen. Trotzdem die Sache schier aussichtslos ist, hat die Gesellschaft dieser Tage einen neuen Platz in Duala erworben.
