Description
View 2: View of the French oil tanker "Ventose" in the South China Sea. The tanker was enroute from Indonesia to Japan when it rescued a boat full of Vietnamese refugees, "Boat People". Tuyet Thi Tran was nine months pregnant and was the first person to climb up to the ship. Her then husband told the people in the boat, "Take your time, don't get so excited, the boat could sink if we don't keep it balanced." One of the French officers made a handsign to let the people in the boat know, everybody would be rescued. The officer warned the people to slow down and keep the small boat balanced to prevent it from tipping to one side. Photo dated: July 25, 1979.
