Description
Photo caption printed in the Sacramento Bee on July 9, 1972 states: "Odd as it may seem with flood waters, background, lapping at the edge of the field, this Delta tomato ranch requires irrigation because of dry soil. Work crews have begun the job of clearing Isleton, which is half flooded, of debris and wreckage left by the tides following the San Joaquin River levee break. The disaster left residents homeless and farmers with flooded fields. Crews working around the clock have almost completed a levee around the sewage treatment plant. Evacuees cannot return to their homes until the plant is back in working order. The Red Cross is trying to find housing for large families."
