She was born in North Carolina and signed with MGM in 1941. She appeared in several high-profile films from the 1950s to 1970s, and continued to act until a few years before her death. She was married to actor Mickey Rooney, musician Artie Shaw and singer and actor Frank Sinatra. She died at the age of 67 in London in 1990.
