Description
More than 100 firemen paraded in front of City Hall, protesting a report which denied their requests for a shorter work week. The group, composed of members of Local 748, International Association of Fire fighters, carried placards denouncing City Administrative Officer C. Erwin Piper's report which turned down their request for shorter hours. William Wheatley, Local 748 president, said the demonstration was aimed at "calling attention of the public to the fact that Los Angeles fire fighters work an average of nine hours per week more than any other major city in the United States." Photo dated: March 7, 1966.
