Shades of L.A. is an archive of photographs representing the contemporary and historic diversity of families in Los Angeles. Images were chosen from family albums and include daily life, social organizations, work, personal and holiday celebrations, and migration and immigration activities. Title supplied by cataloger.; Image is a reproduction. Aydin Kocataskin was born in Turkey in 1966. He came to the U.S. to go to college in Oklahoma. After receiving his B.S. degree in 1990, he got a job in Southern California and decided to stay here. His parents remained in Istanbul, although his father had worked in this country in 1962. Aydin�s uncle went to MIT and lived in San Francisco. Aydin also had relatives in the Seattle area, Florida, and Louisiana. They all immigrated for their work. Sabahat, grandmother of Aydin Kocataskin, sits in her living room armchair and crochets a tablecloth at her home in Istanbul, Turkey.
