Description
Photograph article dated September 1, 1962 partially reads, "An elderly Bell Gardens man became the county's first traffic fatality today in what the National Safety Council expects will be a long, bloody Labor Day weekend. Stewart Bason, 65, 5947 Shull St., was dead on arrival at County General Hospital early today after being struck by a small sports car. Deputies said Bason was dragged 87 feet after he was hit at Garfield Ave. and Shull St. The driver of the sports car, James G. Courtney, 21, 903 Heliotrope Dr., Los Angeles, told officers that Bason appeared to be standing in the street. He was not held." Photograph caption reads, "The hospital: Nurse Annie Lee in emergency room."; See images #00145941 through #00145944 for all photos in this series.
