Description
Overview of the Winchester Mystery House showing a wide range of building styles employed by Mrs. Winchester. In the center foreground a large tree grows in a courtyard. Mrs. Winchester was not a trained architect but a wealthy eccentric who could afford to indulge her construction hobby. Because of her inexperience the mansion is full of quirky and sometimes baffling details. Later owners of the mansion emphasized these aspects by calling it the "Mystery" house.
