The Pico House is listed as California Historical Landmark No. 159 and National Historic NPS-72000231. Ezra F. Kysor designed the Italianate Merced Theatre, built in 1870 by William Abbott and named for his wife, Mercedes. It opened on January 30, 1871 and is the oldest surviving theater in Los Angeles.
