"Oberhäuptling Makyembe" ("Paramount chief Makyembe"). Three people sitting. The man in the middle (apparently chief Makyembe) is wearing a hat and a robe. He is holding an object in his hand. The man on the right side has put his hat on his lap and is wearing a jacket. The woman(?) on the left side is wrapped in a drapery. In the background a hut and trees.

Samuel Baudert (1879-1956), born as son of the missionary Samuel Baudert in South Africa, was mission director of the Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine from 1924 to 1927 and since 1929 their bishop.
