Photograph caption date stamped August 23, 1963 partially reads, "The United States all-round gymnastics champion, Makato Sakamoto of Los Angeles High School, heads a list of champions who will compete Saturday night in an Olympic development meet at Valley College in Van Nuys. Sakamoto, only 16 years old, will take on such Olympic veterans as Jack Beckner, Larry Banner and Armando Vega, all of whom he defeated in the national championships earlier this year in Philadelphia." Photograph caption reads, "Los Angeles' Makato Sakamoto - Competes Saturday at Valley College."
