Photograph caption dated March 27, 1965 reads, "Most of the new Griffith Park Zoo is still raw ground stripped of its vegetation while cages are constructed and landscaping is in the planning stage. But the new Children's Zoo, upper right in the photograph, officially opens Monday with its stock of young animals waiting for the young visitors. The entire zoo will be completed sometime in autumn of 1965."
