Sacramento area resident Verlyn Dean Gleisberg received national acclaim when his painting depicting 26 historic scenes from California history was presented to then President Jimmy Carter at the White House on March 30, 1977 by members of the Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. The artist admits to having eclectic tastes and his subjects and style over nearly 40 years range from stylized figures to ethnic culture to the abstract. One of Gleisberg’s prominent pieces, a mural containing 66 images highlighting the state’s military history from Spanish Colonization to current overseas involvement, was gifted to the California State Military Museum in May of 2009.
