View of the meat counter and butchers posed for portrait at a Roberts Market in Los Angeles. The sign posted on scale on counter on the left reads "Roberts Markets ... 10113 Venice Blvd" (located in the West Los Angeles and Culver City area, California). The neon sign says "Roberts Quality Meats."
This is a copy negative (a photograph of another photograph). Title and date based on note "Roberts Market - late 30s - 40s"--note received with negative. Title and date devised by cataloger based on note. This photograph is part of a group of copy negatives identified as "Fred and Florence Roberts, Rancho Rumba, Malibu." Fred L. Roberts (died 1976) was a grocer who founded Roberts Public Market in Santa Monica; he and his wife, Florence Roberts, owned a ranch in Solstice Canyon, Malibu (see Los Angeles Times, "Funeral Services to Be Held for Businessman Fred Roberts, August 7, 1976, page d8).
