Description
Three women and four single hats for January 1839. The hat in the upper left hand corner is a wide brimmed white bonnet with green ribbon detailing around the crown and lining the inside where the brim meets the crown. The second hat is a small white bonnet with lace trim and a blue bow. The woman in the top center wears a pink wide brimmed bonnet with pink and white feathers decorating the top. The feathers cascade down the outside of the hat and pink flowers edge the inside of the brim. A pink bow ties the bonnet underneath her chin. She wears a green dress with a deep "V" neck and black fringe along the edges. To the right of the woman is a wide-brimmed pink bonnet with white feathers, and a small white bonnet with wide lace ruffles and pink rose bud accents. The woman on the bottom left wears a white wide-brimmed bonnet with ruffled eyelet trim and pink roses, a white, scalloped collar with a pink bow and a large, navy blue overcoat with wide lapels, a braided sash with tassels, and wide sleeves. She holds a white handkerchief in her gloved hand. Where her coat opens at the bottom, details on her pink skirt are shown. The woman on the bottom right has a pale yellow bonnet adorned with pink flowers, a white lace kerchief collar fastened with a brooch, over a fitted black bodice, laced across the front, with lace trim. Her dress is rose pink and has wide puffed sleeves and a full, bell-shaped skirt with three tiers of ruffles on the bottom.
