Description
1989-1184. In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. C, leaf 2. Front facade of a two-storey building; second floor has four large windows above corresponding businesses below; first floor all four businesses have tile on the top half of the facade; on left business is a segmented arch over the entrance and the head of a man is seen on the right half of door; second business on left has "The Tunnel Restaurant" on the window; two perpendicular signs project from facade - "Hotel" on the left and "Tunnel" on the right; on the right most business "The Tunnel" is above the door and "The Tunnel Restaurant" on the window. Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "1020-22 Second street... This building erected in 1906. . About 1879, they [W.P. Fuller & Co.] moved to 1020-22 2nd street, occupied part of the Orleans Hotel Bldg., remained here until 1906 when the building burned, removed temporarly to L street."
