Description
Photograph of a group portrait of Shriners posing in front of an Egyptian gateway in Long Beach, ca.1890. The members of the organization are arranged in an arch shape that stretches across the image. There are both men and women, and five women are seated at center as the others stand. The large gateway behind them is adorned with camels, sphinxes and obelisks, as well as many hieroglyphs. A man in a suit is standing near the head of a camel at center. Through the large rectangular opening in the gateway, a long crowded street is visible. Large, multi-story buildings are visible beyond the edges of the Egyptian structure on both sides and a utility pole is at right.
