"Miao preacher and missionary's wife, together vaccinating Miao children against smallpox. In England the infant mortality rate is roughly 5%...among the Miao it is anything between 50% and 80%." Possibly Yunnan, South West China Kendall and his wife, Ruth (nee Rowley), worked in South West China from 1939 until the expulsion of all missionaries by the Communist government in 1951. They were later posted to Kenya. Kendall wrote two books, both illustrated with photographs, Eyes of the Earth and Beyond the Clouds.
