This is a photograph of "Fr. Kaschmitter and a Chinese companion at Fushun." They are standing in front of a house and there is snow on the ground. Born in Iowa, Fr. Kaschmitter came to Maryknoll before 1920 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1924. He was then assigned to teach Moral Theology and Church History at Maryknoll as well as being SpiritualDirector of the Brothers. In 1932 Fr. Kaschmitter worked in the Los Angeles Japanese mission and was then assigned to Fushun, Manchuria in 1933. He spent four years as a teacher in the seminary in Fushun and then in 1937 he went to work in Peking as a member of the Synodal Commission in charge of the Lumen News Service. During the war years he was interned in Peking and returned to the United States in 1946. He then put his journalistic ability to work in Japan, working for the information department of the National Catholic Committee.
