Description
1989-1191. In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. C, leaf 4. View of a street at a slight diagonal; principle building is stucco and has three floors; first floor has a roof over the sidewalk; the 2nd and 3rd floors each have 5 windows; above windows on 2nd floor is a horizontal lintel upheld by corbels; on the third floor above windows is a roofline element with corbels; roof is crowned by 5 chimneys and below each is a vertical hinge at the top of the building; a balcony surrounds 2nd floor;to the building's right is a one storey building and to its left a narrow four floor brick building and on its left is a two storey building cut off by the photo; a car is parked perpendicular to the sidewalk. Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. Jones Hotel, erected in 1853, Brannan Hotel in the '60s, Tremount Hotel in '80's, now known as The Espanol Hotel.
