Description
Annotation translation: "Lions like this are put up to guard temples and halls for the ancestors, and provide protection. This superstition still hovers around the christian congregations. Near Kutschuk a christian man built a house next door to the compound of a christian woman. As he painted a cross on his gable the woman had put up a small stone lion facing his house to keep evil influences away. When the missionary investigated her case - there had been complaints - she argued that the small stone lion was no more than a toy figure for her children."
