Built on a 40-acre site which was part of a historic Spanish rancho granted to Don Antonio Lugo, the Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. plant was designed by Architects Curlett & Beelman. The $7,000,000 plant, located at Santa Fe Avenue and Firestone Boulevard, manufactured its first tire in 1928. The factory closed in 1980. Looking northeast over a Firestone Tire and Rubber Company factory, located at 2525 Firestone Boulevard (center) in South Gate. Near where Firestone Boulevard meets Santa Fe Avenue on the right, an addition to the plant is under construction. The photograph dated November 11, 1954.
