Description
This circa 1950 postcard shows the facade of the California State Capitol building, as viewed from the southwest. The dome was painted gold in 1948 to commemorate the discovery of gold 100 years earlier. Prior to that, and in 1907, it was painted green with green ribs. From 1893 onward, it was painted green with white ribs. Before that, it was simply a natural copper color.
