Description
An engraving entitled "Mexican Funeral," circa 1855. The image shows a funeral procession on the right entering through the gates of a cemetery. There are two men at the head of the group, one holding a violin, the other a guitar. In back of them is a man carrying the body of a woman laying on a stretcher, followed by the rest of the group of men, women, and children. In the left of the foreground is a group of three men standing by a grave. On the right is a man standing with a shovel by an opened grave. A bone and a skull lay near the grave. In the back is a structure with a peaked roof, arched doorway, and two columns. On the right of this is a dog house. A mountain is on the right side of the background. Four holes along the top of the image indicate that the image was bound in the book, "History of the World" (1855). With a light crease along the top, light stains and surface soiling, the artifact is in good condition overall.
