Description
The Historic Church of Cúcuta, located adjacent to the Parque Grancolombiano (Park of the Greater Colombia). The church is surrounded by palm trees and stoneworks. In 1821, the church hosted the Congress of Cúcuta, whose members signed the Constitution of Cúcuta, founding Colombia on August 30, 1821. In 1875, the church was destroyed in an earthquake, a calamity which was followed by efforts to restore it. In 1926, the church became a national monument, a fact that was reinforced in 1935. Inside the church remains where the altar was previously located, there is a statue of Simón Bolívar, which is visible in the middle of the image.
