Image of a lighthouse on a rocky promontory with ships sailing nearby and image of a ship at sea at the top of a letter of safe conduct certificate for the ship Montpelier granting the ability to pass without "hindrance, seizure, or molestation;" embossed United States seal at bottom left; signed by President John Tyler and Secretary of State John C. Calhoun.
