Photographic portrait of Harrison Gray Otis, [s.d.]. The bust of Otis can be seen in profile facing right. He can be seen wearing a white shirt and dark colored jacket. He has short white hair, parted to the side, and a white mustache and long goatee. Otis was the publisher of the Los Angeles Times for over thirty years. He was born in 1837 in Ohio. He served in the American Civil War and later held a number of jobs before moving to California in 1876. He edited the Santa Barbara Press for several years. In 1882 Otis purchased an interest in the Los Angeles Times. He became president, general manager and editor-in-chief in 1886, and was considered a very influential leader in Los Angeles until his death in 1917.
