Photograph article dated June 13, 1962 partially reads, "The stage will be dark. There'll be no speakers, no diplomas, no gowns. No one will play 'Pomp and Circumstance' and there will be no picture taking by proud parents of proud seniors. Because there will be no seniors. And no graduation this year at Sylmar High School. Students today are cleaning out their lockers. Thursday they will get their school yearbooks. And Friday they will get their report cards and go home... 'Graduation is a lot of work for a principal,' said Billingsley. 'And we're the only Valley high school that doesn't have one,' Why? Because Sylmar opened its doors, 13050 Borden Ave., for the first time last September. Admitted were sophomores and juniors. The seniors - or those who would have been seniors graduating this week - remained at San Fernando High School." William B. Billingsley, principal, sits in an empty auditorium with Andrea DesLauriers, left, and Dianne Spencer, both of Sylmar, who will graduate next June.
