Description
Our interviewee is named David Martin and he is a 70 year old retired Sergeant in the United States Army. He was drafted in 1966, much to his dismay, but later on said that he very much enjoyed his time in the service. He was promoted very rapidly throughout his time there. Very shortly after his basic training he was promoted to Sergeant Supervisor School and later on sent to be trained as a radio operator, and then a radio teletypist. He was transferred to various bases throughout the United States until he finally decided to volunteer to be sent to Vietnam. Many criticized him for his decision but he went anyway. He ended up being transferred to Bangkok, Thailand and much of his time involvement with the battle in Vietnam was spent delivering supplies and coding materials via airplane when they were needed. After he left the Army, he joined the LA County Sheriff's Department and served the county of Los Angeles and its millions of patrons loyally for over 33 years. Additionally, as a side hobby he took on flying lessons and learned how to operate helicopters. Dave is currently happily married and has one son. As a post-retirement hobby he also opened up his home to shelter and adopt several homeless and abandoned puppies and dogs. Now, he is happily retired and living comfortably in the San Fernando Valley in Southern California. [Profile bio]
