Description
Image of a scene in a boathouse on a lake with four men and a couple standing near a kitchen table and chair, boat, and oars, with a vignette of a proposal scene with a man and woman sitting and holding hands while an older man looks on; the poster advertises the farce comedy "The Guv'nor" written by E. G. Lankester.
Margins trimmed on local copy; probable date approximated by cataloger based on general show history; the play was first performed in the United States in 1880 ("'The Guv'nor' is the title of the first new play that has been brought out at Wallack's this season; it was performed for the first time on Wednesday evening ..." ("Wallack's Theatre," New York Times, 21 October 1880, page 5). Yer' and, Yer' and."--text, caption, top left.
