View of Hindu style pillars fading into the distance. They form part of the mandapa or cloister of the Quwwat-ul-Islam mosque built byQutb-ud-din Aibak. It is one of the earliest examples of Islamic design in India. The mosque lies amongst the ruins of Hindu Temples which supplied the building materials for the Qutub complex. ❧ This is one of a series of photographs contained in an album showing popular tourist attractions in India, the album was owned by an unknown Church of Scotland missionary who had probably taken the tour whilst working out in the region. Unfortunately there is very little information with the photographs as to there ownership or subject matter
