Description

In PHOTO ALBUM-VAULT: ** fc917.9461 A3, Vol. I, page 232 top.
This photograph is contained in one of two volumes by Dobbin titled "Album of San Francisco."
Text written under photo: "Laying the corner stone Public Library Civic Center." This could not be the case since the half-finished library is visible to the left. It is not known what this ceremony was for. The Exposition Auditorium is out of the photo to the right; it was already completed before construction of the library was begun, according to Mel Scott in "The San Francisco Bay Area." Various dignitaries and military formations are surrounded by onlookers. Behind the library is the old Hall of Records. In the distance can be seen the David Hewes Building, the Grant Building, and the Odd Fellows Hall. The Pioneer Monument is visible at the right.
