Description
Photograph of an exterior view of the Mission San Luis Obispo taken by the photographer Edward Vischer, before 1875. The southern front entrance to the mission is shown, a wall gate opening up into the main building's archway doors. Three bells hang from openings on the second floor of the adobe. To the left, a second building is built into the wall, showing a small window and terracotta-tiled roof. Writing is painted on the front of the main building, which reads "Creata MDCCLXXII" and "Reparata MDCCCLXXII". Other text is pictured but illegible. Tree foliage hangs over the wall near the gate. The strip in front of the mission may be a sidewalk, as a drop is visible in the foreground, although no ground is pictured beyond it.
