Description
Title supplied by cataloger.; Photograph was edited for publication purposes.
Photograph caption dated September 8, 1953 reads "Actress Dorothy Lamour and her husband, William Howard, both of whom came to actress Kay Willamss' aid after the alleged beating, arrive at the hearing. Miss Lamour had said previously that Miss Williams was 'in bad shape' after the incident." The caption refers to testimony in a preliminary hearing at a Costa Mesa courtroom against Adolph Spreckels II, heir to the Spreckels sugar fortune. Spreckels had been accused of beating his ex-wife, Kay Williams with her own shoe. Lamour was a close friend of Williams and had been the one to take Williams to the hospital. Spreckels was later found guilty of the beating and served a term of 30 days.
