Without her parents' consent, 16-year-old Brenda Lenore Emerson had eloped with her 20-year-old husband, Steve Emerson, nine months before her body was discovered. The couple lived at 9645 1/2 W. Olympic Blvd. in Beverly Hills. Initially ruled a mystery, Emerson's death was caused by 3.4 grams of sodium pentothal, administered prior to an abortion that she was to have had. Photograph caption dated March 26, 1959 reads, "Edgar Schrater, left, 37-year-old suspect in abortion death of pretty Mrs. Brenda Lenore Emerson, whose body was found in Burbank Saturday night, is questioned by Police Lt. Herman Zander following his surrender at office of Hollywood attorney."
