Description
Textile degree chart illustrating in aging printing ink from various Masonic symbols, includeng Royal Arch and Knights Templar. At the top and bottom are songs. Within the book at the center, there is an inscription but it is too small and faded to be read. Donor states that this item is illustrated and referred to in a volume of American Antiques 1800-1900 by Joseph T. Butler. ***Confirmed by Adam Kendall who purchased this book. The photograph is on page 143. This object--called a handkerchief in the book--is printed and is, therefore, most likely mass-produced. As reported in the accession book, it is a family heirloom originating in the vicinity of one of these several (and distant locations): Plattsburg or Glenn Falls near Lake George, NY, or Trenton of Princeton, NJ. The original owners are believed to be named Stebbins, Oldon or Bruyere. The engravers listed on the print, Gray and Todd, operated in Philadelphia ca. 1817 21.5 x 24.5
