Description
Used in the Exhibit: Play by Play - A Century of L.A. Sports Photography, 1889-1989
Trainer Canto Robledo (left) instructing one of his fighters. Raised in Pasadena, Robledo won the Pacific Coast bantamweight crown in the early 1930s. The cost was severe: he suffered eye injuries and lost his sight. Robledo never abandoned the sport he loved; he built a gym in the backyard of his home and trained fighters by what he called his "sense of touch." He died in 1999. Photo dated: July 11, 1978.
