Speech by Charles Handy on life experience outside the classroom, acquiring practical life skills, and being prepared for the demands of real world occupations. Handy contends that British society is at a crossroads, in a stage now that must be considered seriously. Because Britain is in the grip of global market capitalism, it is in for a bumpy ride that is beyond government control. According to Handy, it signals the end of the conventional career as organizations become increasingly virtual and the traditional office space becomes more and more meaningless. In addition, the practice of British education is failing to live up to the needs of British society, and Handy advocates the teaching of more confidence to British pupils, alongside an overhaul of primary school curriculum.
