Photograph caption dated January 19, 1950 reads "Raymond B. Crawford of Glendale gets first State disability insurance check distributed in Los Angeles area at Birmingham Hospital, Van Nuys, from Insurance Manager W. R. Dougherty while Nurse Mary Richards watches. Veteran received $142.43 which included $96 for 12 days of hospitalization."
