Description
Astronomer Nicholas Mayall, of the Lick Observatory, writes to EPH, thanking him for a copy of his paper on the luminosity function. He agrees that the presence of bright 3727 in about one third of the nebulae is puzzling, and asserts that he believes it is mostly nebulae of type Sc. He has been writing a paper on the spectrum of the Crab Nebula and explains his methods and theories. He thanks EPH for the translation of the Chinese observation of the nova. He explains that the review of Realm of the Nebulae included William Wright's comments on Keeler. He notes that some of his colleagues appreciate EPH's work which throws doubt on the a priori theories of the expanding universe.
