Chimneys stand alone on Malibu Mesa As they appeared during reseeding operations early in January 1957 (Gaze) As they appeared December-8-1957 (Gaze). Caption slip reads: "Photographer: Gaze. Date: 1957-01. Reporter: Gaze. Assignment: Malibu fire anniversary. Special instructions: For Mon, Dec 16. #59: A helicopter begins reseeding of hillside along the east end of the Malibu Mesa area while chimneys of two destroyed homes stand as markers of the disastrous fire. #77: The scene changed only by the absence of the helicopter and a heavy increase in grass and weeds, these two chimneys still stand stark alone as they did a year ago. They might represent of the homes that have not been rebuilt during the first year following the fire".
