Description
Founded in 1963, Oakmont Village is an age-restricted (55-plus) residential community situated off California State Highway 12 within Santa Rosa, California, city limits near the foot of Hood Mountain in the storied "Valley of the Moon". Oakmont consists of approximately 3,l5O single and multi-family homes on 1,400 acres, with an estimated population of more than 4,5OO residents. The community abuts Annadel State Park and is close to two other state parks, two regional parks, and several wineries and vineyards in one of the world's foremost wine producing areas. The independently-owned and operated Oakmont Golf Club has two 18-hole golf courses within the Oakmont Village, a par 72 West Course and a par 63 executive-level East Course. The Oakmont Village Association (OVA) is the master association. The community occupies land once home to villages of two Native American tribes, the Wappo and Southern Pomo. The area passed through a number of hands under Spanish, Mexican, Russian and subsequent American settlers and was part of the 18,800-acre Rancho Los Guilicos granted to General Mariano Vallejo's Carillo family relative, John Wilson (the husband of Ramona Carillo) in 1837. Joe Coney, owner of Annadel Farm, sold a portion of his holdings to southern California developer H. N. Berger. Berger developed the master plan for Oakmont and had developed much of the project by his retirement in 1986, at which time development passed to the Gallaher Group, led by Bill Gallaher and his brother, Pat Gallaher. The remaining areas were developed by the Gallaher Group and by Dennis Hunter's Redwood Equities Investments LLC, with final construction underway in 2017.
