Description
Used in the Exhibit: Play by Play - A Century of L.A. Sports Photography, 1899-1989.
When Earvin "Magic" Johnson arrived in Los Angeles in 1979, he had won at every level: his high school team took the state championship and his Michgan State team the NCAA title. With his irrepressible grin and no-look passes, he transformed the Lakers into instant, perennial winners: the Lakers took five NBA crowns with Johnson at point, before he retired in 1991 after being diagnosed with HIV. Photograph dated May 12, 1985.
