Description
Title supplied by cataloger.
A San Bernardino neighborhood was devastated by a 69-freight train that hurtled out of control off the tracks at 90 mph, slamming into 11 houses. Friends and family waited anxiously to find out what and who were left inside the homes as emergency crews, like the worker seen here along with a rescue dog, swarmed over the derailed rail car at the scene of the crash. Workers used torches to cut through the wrecked train's engine compartment to hunt for the black box, which was later found. Photograph dated May 12, 1989.
