Photograph caption dated October 4, 1963 reads, "Progress is wonderful. A man pushed a button. And we heard a woman in San Francisco tell us the weather. It was overcast. Then, he pushed another button. And we heard a man in New York tell us the World Series score. The Dodgers won, 4-1. The button he pushed was part of 'Magicall,' an electronic instrument that makes a phone call as easy as selecting a song on a juke box. Valley residents, served by Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Co., may now call any number, either local or long distance, simply by pressing a button. A compact companion to the dial telephone, Magicall places calls quickly (about twice as fast as manual dialing), accurately and conveniently when only the name of the party to be called is selected."
