Description
This circa 1977 photograph shows the Ruhstaller Building at Ninth and J Streets with Jewelcraft Loans at 900 J Street and Albert Ramirez Bail Bonds occupying the ground floor at 1005 Ninth Street. Built in 1898 by Sacramento brewer and capitalist, 20,000 square foot structure was one of the first in California to employ an air cooling system, whereby cold river water was pumped through air blowers within the building. Less than a decade after this photograph was taken, the building had undergone full restoration.
