Description
Taken November 1,1937, this photograph was snapped on the Tower Bridge, which replaced the old M street bridge, looking east down M Street. Regal Distributing Company, distributor of Regal Amber Lager Beer and located at 1301 Front Street, is the only identifiable business in this photo. Abraham Bellisi was the distributor. From 1917-1928, this building may have housed Hall-Luhrs & Company (wholesale grocers, liquors, & tobacco). Hall-Luhrs & Co. bought out Millikin Brothers (wholesale grocers) in Sacramento and San Francisco in the Spring of 1877. Thomas Bertram Hall, Charles A Luhrs, Louis Mohr, and Charles Yoerk ran the firm. From 1877-1883 they were located on the southwest corner of Third and K Streets and from 1884-1916 their address was 912-916 Second Street. They obtained approximately 20 trademarks for products, including Our Taste hams and bacon. Sometime before 1959 the building was destroyed and replaced by another.
