International News Photo | slug (bakery voting) | Vote "Ja" says the sign -- and 9/10's of them did! | Berlin -- Early in the morning this crowd lines-up in front of a local polling booth in a bakery, to vote on the national plebiscite. Only one-tenth of the voters disobeyed the suggestion on the placard and voted "No" instead of "Yes" concerning support of Hitler's "Fuehrer [sic] policies". (E-827-34)-5" -- typed note attached to verso. "Received. Examiner reference library. Sep 15, 1934" -- stamped on verso. "Electioneering close to the polls is banned in America, but this picture from Berlin shows a line of voters waiting to cast their ballots in the August plebiscite with uniformed officers standing with pro-Hitler placards in front of the polling place. The placard on the man in the foreground reads: "Ja" ("yes"), and "Feuherer [sic] Wir Folgen Dir" (Master We Follow Thee). -- Picture is from the International News Photograph Service" -- Examiner clipping attached to verso, dated, "Sep 9, 1934".
