Ozro W. Childs, a Protestant horticulturalist, was a founding father of The University of Southern California. His sprawling estate spanned from Main to Hill streets, and from Eleventh to Twelfth streets. It later became known as the "Huntington Purchase". This is a hand-tinted photograph showing several trees and neatly manicured grounds. The house can be seen peeking through behind trees. The bottom of the photo reads, "6 Grounds of O.W. Childs, Main St. cor. Eleventh St.", "Gardens of Los Angeles in Mid-winter.", and "Pierce & Blanchard, 569 N. Main St., Los Angeles, California."
