Willard Lewis Waterman was born on August 29, 1914. He was a character actor in films, TV and on radio, best known for succeeding Harold Peary as the title character of "The Great Gildersleeve," a radio program, at the height of that show's popularity. Waterman also starred in the 1955 television version. He died on February 2, 1995. Photograph caption dated July 13, 1955 reads "William (sic) 'Gildersleeve' Waterman." The article partially reads "On Saturday night, June 18, KRCA held a combination dance and carnival to publicize the need for a San Fernando Valley Teen Center. Over 2,000 teen-agers and oldsters turned out for the three-hour event which took place on the grounds of the NBC television studios in Burbank."; See images #00124664 through #00124674 for all photos in this series.
